Organic production decisions depend on whole-farm management, record keeping, soil fertility, weed and pest planning, harvest handling and a realistic market route.
Before adopting a new practice
- Compare the practice with the crop, soil, climate and labour available on the farm.
- Check whether inputs and services are reliably available and suitable for the intended certification system.
- Run a small, measurable trial when feasible and record labour, costs, crop condition and quality.
- Revisit the plan after each season and use current locally validated recommendations.
Important: Local production, animal-health, certification and scheme requirements vary. Confirm details with the competent state authority or a qualified local adviser before spending or applying inputs.
