Certification

Certification is a formal process with defined standards and records. In India, NPOP is relevant to certified organic production and export systems, while PGS-India is a separate participatory system for specified domestic/local-market contexts.

Before applying

  • Decide the target market and which certification system applies before promising an organic claim.
  • Contact a currently authorised or accredited certification body or the relevant official programme.
  • Maintain field maps, input records, seed and planting-material details, harvest volumes, storage segregation and sales records.
  • Check conversion requirements, group certification options, inspections, fees, labelling and current logo rules directly with the authority.
Important: Local production, animal-health, certification and scheme requirements vary. Confirm details with the competent state authority or a qualified local adviser before spending or applying inputs.
