An integrated farming system connects compatible crop, livestock, poultry, fishery, horticulture or tree enterprises so that land, labour, water and residues may be used more efficiently.
Designing a workable system
- Start with available land, water storage, labour, skills, capital and the family’s risk tolerance.
- Map potential links such as crop residues for suitable feed, manure composting, fodder production and pond-based fish culture where safe and suitable.
- Do not transfer raw wastes directly into ponds or food systems without a locally validated management plan.
- Budget each enterprise separately as well as together, and phase investment so that management remains manageable.
Important: Local production, animal-health, certification and scheme requirements vary. Confirm details with the competent state authority or a qualified local adviser before spending or applying inputs.
