Composite Carp Culture

Composite culture combines compatible species with different feeding niches to use pond resources more effectively. Species combination, stocking ratios and carrying capacity must follow local fisheries guidance.

Planning checklist

  • Clarify target species, stocking size, production cycle and buyer requirements.
  • Test source water and soil as relevant and assess seasonal changes.
  • Choose a design and stocking plan suitable to the site and management capacity.
  • Plan feed, oxygen/aeration, water exchange, backup power where needed and disease prevention.
  • Keep records of input cost, feed conversion, growth, mortality, water quality and harvest.
  • Confirm state fisheries permissions, environmental requirements and scheme eligibility from current official sources.
Site-specific planning is essential. Different aquaculture systems are not interchangeable; freshwater pond culture, saline shrimp and cold-water trout require different conditions and management.
