Fertilizers & Manures

Organic nutrient management combines soil testing, crop needs, manure or compost quality, residue recycling and timing. Organic inputs still need responsible handling and nutrient budgeting.

Nutrient planning

  • Start with soil testing and an estimate of crop nutrient removal and field history.
  • Check manure or compost source, maturity, salinity and possible contaminants before application.
  • Account for nutrients supplied by irrigation water, legumes, residues and previous applications where reliable information exists.
  • Avoid blanket rates: match application, placement and timing to soil, crop and local recommendations.
Important: Local production, animal-health, certification and scheme requirements vary. Confirm details with the competent state authority or a qualified local adviser before spending or applying inputs.
